Roatán is generally safer than mainland Honduras. Crime is lower. Tourists are well looked after by the government in Roatán and the community because tourism is vital to the local economy. The island cannot afford bad things to happen to tourists in Roatán. Próspera, Las Verandas where you will be accommodated is a gated community with a hired caretaker of a "watchman." These gatekeepers do an excellent job of watching over your property and community.

Sunscreen (try to avoid DEET if you are going in the water), sunglasses and a hat are needed most of the year because the sun is hot and strong. Insect repellent is also needed mainly for beaches where sand flies are found and sometimes at night. We recommend packing comfortable and light clothing.

· Prescription medications
· Toiletries
· Camera
· Day travel bag
· Reusable water bottle
· Swimwear
